"Chongqing Senlin" "Chungking Express" (94)PG-13 102 minutes Subtitles
Director Kar-wai Wong, Starring Takeshie Kaneshiro, Brigitte Lin, Tony Wai, Faye Wong.
"Chungking Express" is a film I saw recently in my film class. I was extremely impressed with this film. Director Kar-Wai Wong is defiantly a director who impresses me. I want to see more of his films.
Basic Plot: Two stories of two different cops. Both cops have melancholy because their loves have left them. The first cop 223 (Takeshie Kaneshiro) has an unusual way of mourning, he buys a can of pineapple each day of the month until the expiration date goes out. He meets a woman with a blond wig (Brigitte Lin) one night at a bar. She's on her own personal mission, searching for Indians who stole her drugs. Then there is cop 663 (Tony Wai). He's another man who is missing his love. He manages to peak the interest of a woman (Faye Wong) who works at a local food stand. She sneaks into his house when he is not home. She cleans it and replaces certain items in his apartment.
The film has a very simple plot, but the final product is brilliant. The film has great use of editing. There is a lot of use of slow motion, and sometimes it is speed up. This is one of the best looking foreign films i've seen.
Give this film a chance, I think you'll like it. It was released by Quentin Tarantino's Rolling Thunder Pictures.
